COVID-19 outbreaks and lockdowns have made 2022 a hard year for restaurants. But hard times for chefs are good times for Cao Zhiwei, a secondhand kitchen equipment dealer. Since lockdown, he says, he’s getting dozens of calls a day from distressed restaurateurs. Even as restaurants go out of business at a record pace, he’s had no difficulty finding buyers for quality kitchen equipment at bargain prices.
